The European Broadcasting Union has fined the Icelandic broadcaster 5,000 Euros.
After months since the 2019 Eurovision Song Contest held in Tel Aviv, Israel, the EBU has issued a fine regarding the incident with Hatari waving Palestinian flags in the Green Room on Live TV. The incident was pre-planned by Hatari. You can watch the political green room moment here:
The fine, which was issued by the European Broadcasting Union, has already been objected to by the RÚV, saying that they were ‘dissatisfied with the handling of the case and the proposed outcome’. Hatari’s actions during the live final broke the EBU’s no-politic rule and RÚV claims that they took every precaution to prevent Hatari from using political devices.
Despite the fine, the Icelandic broadcaster is still pleased with its representatives and says that ‘Hatari were impressive and attracted a lot of attention’. Iceland has confirmed its participation in next year’s event and song submissions are officially open.
