RTVSLO have announced they won’t be returning to Junior Eurovision this year due to the high participation costs.
Speaking to Eurofestivales, the Head of Entertainment at RTVSLO Vanja Vardjan stated:
RTVSLO participated in Junior Eurovision in 2014 and 2015 when it was prime time television, but when the EBU moved the event to afternoon we could not install it in our program, it is also too expensive for the afternoon schedule.Statement from RTVSLO.
Jon Ola Sand spoke of the reason of the time change, saying:
Many members, including some who do not participate, felt that the time interval was not suitable for children and family viewing, so they have tried to take the competition to a more appropriate time for this type of event .”

Slovenia has participated in Junior Eurovision twice, in 2014 and 2015, achieving third place in 2015, their best result to date. They withdrew in 2016 after the EBU announced the changes to the timing of the show, but this reason was never confirmed by the broadcaster.
